Sie betreiben aktive Gesundheitsförderung in der Bevölkerung. Als größte Berufsgruppe im Gesundheitswesen sind sie für die Gesundheitspolitik des jeweiligen Landes mitverantwortlich.
Das Buch basiert auf einer neunjährigen Zusammenarbeit mit Kolleginnen und Kollegen aus Malawi und Sambia und Simbabwe. Das vom Deutschen Akadamische Austauschdienst finanzierte Programm diente der Entwicklung von Schulungsangeboten zum Thema HIV/AIDS für Pflegende in den afrikanischen Ländern. Der englischsprachige Sammelband stellt die Ergebnisse der Kooperation dar. Er informiert auch über die Chancen und Herausforderungen eines deutsch-afrikanischen Wissenstransfers im Bereich der Pflege.

Olivia Dibelius ist Professorin für Pflegewissenschaft/Pflegemanagement an der Evangelischen Hochschule Berlin. Ihre Schwerpunkte sind unter anderem Transkulturelle Pflege und Entwicklungszusammenarbeit. Sie leitete das Projekt „Süd-Süd-Nord-Netzwerk zur Schulung von Pflegekräften mit dem Schwerpunkt HIV/AIDS“ des Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienstes. Das Projekt war an drei zentralen Hochschulen für Pflegekräfte in Malawi, Zambia und Zimbabwe angesiedelt.
